What is your favorite place to go for vacation? Do you have a special place you dream of going back to? Is there a particular city you are drawn to and even though you know it by heart you can't get enough of it and need to visit it regularly? Ooohh...I have many places like this. Many cities I love revisiting and many spots I love and would happily go back to.
Can I tell you how obsessed I am with this dress? The fabric, the cut, the look....EVERYTHING! I first saw it in Grace's blog and fell in love with it (there are 2 other versions with similar fabrics that are equally as beautiful) . How practical is this dress? You can wear it for a casual lunch, or even as a bathing suit cover-up but you can even dress it up and wear it to a cocktail party. Its the kind of dress that is good for travelling because of its versatility.
We are officially on our Spring break and we are just a few days away from our family beach vacation. We are soooo excited to get away and rest. In honor of beach geteaways I have for you an affordable round-up of woven or straw things that are beautiful and practical. Let's start with the most exciting item...you guessed it- the straw tote! Too cute right? And its just irresistible with the pom poms. I also, found these cute sandals that pretty much go with everything springy and summery you have in your closets. They are the perfect neutral colors.
I wish I had an occasion to wear a long evening gown with a plunging neckline like these beauties! So feminine, sexy and elegant. But alas, it will be t-shirt and jeans kind-of a weekend around here . Ha!
My mirror is done!! I'm so excited to share with you this easy, inexpensive DIY that is BIG on statement and drama. Its a lot of bang for your buck in my opinion. If you can remember I first came across a painted mirror in this post which served as my inspiration. I hung it in a hallway to our bedrooms with the idea that it would add light, depth, and some excitement. Goal achieved- my trip from the kitchen to my bedroom is a fun jaunt. So, this is what I did:
This rarely happens to me....where I have a few completely unrelated things I want to post and let you know about. But alas, today this has occurred, so bare with me as you learn of two things you will fall hard for like I have (literally!). And in true Mimosa Lane fashion one item is for you and the other item is for your home.
I spotted these cute purple Repetto ballerinas at No. 1/Le Jus the other day and fell instantly in love with them. What a great color I thought to myself- so vibrant and happy. The next thought that crossed my mind was, but what would I wear them with? I don't exactly have many purple items in my closet so the best solution I could come up with was to match the shoes to some statement earrings (this would work just as well with a necklace or a bracelet). You could have some dramatic earrings with purple and then the purple shoes below .... and wear whatever you want in between- like jeans and a white t-shirt. The simpler the outfit, the better. This is a pretty neat trick. It doesn't really matter what you wear, because the highlight of the outfit consists of the colorful shoes and the earrings.
My sweet friend Molly from A Piece of Toast tagged me to share five things about me like she and Sally did last week. She was so sweet to think of me so of course I will oblige. Ok, so here goes.
Do you know a rock band of the 80's called Foreigner? I hadn't heard of it but I guess they were well-known back then and still are, I guess. Well, they will be singing at my daughter's school fundraiser on Saturday. I'm looking forward to a different kind of a night-out. Not sure what I will be wearing but I'm thinking an edgy black and white outfit is in order- chic, elegant, understated, classic. Let's see what I come up with!
Just recently while perusing one of my favorite websites, 1stdibs, I came across this table (below) and realized we used to have this coffee table lacquered in green when I was growing up.
I have come across some very handsome accent tables combined with very nice price tags. Of course, I needed to share them with you. A good accent table can be such a problem-solver and it can add plenty of personality as well.
So excited to have the second edition of the "Sam loves" series. Here was the last post in the series in case you missed it. To refresh your memory Sam from The Peak of Tres Chic and I
will be gathering inspiration under a certain theme a
couple of times a month and sharing it with you. Sam will guest post here in my blog and I will post at Sam's. I guess you could say we are swapping for the day. This time around its all about emerald green.
Hello Mimosa Lane readers! Sam here again, back for another "Sam Loves" post. Today Albertina and I are focusing on fun ways to incorporate Pantone's color of the year, emerald, in to your home and wardrobe.

Happy Monday sweet friends. So, I aside from obsessing over the idea of the painted mirror as art project I spoke to you guys about last Friday in my guest post at My Crafty Home Life, I have been equally obsessing over the colorful rug in this photo. It is a Boucherouite rug. I didn't know about them so I was intrigued. I enjoyed reading this post about them here. Basically, they are made from re-purposed materials and the word Boucherouite refers to a form of rag created from wool and cotton, together with synthetic fibers. Another main feature is their free-form composition. I rounded a few more room photos so you can see them in action.
Aren't these interesting? A little eerie I know, and slightly disturbing, but thought provoking definitely. In their new series "Floating" Bence Bakonyi and Kira Koroknai explore the concept of man in relationship to his environment. Not only are they defying the laws of nature, i.e. gravity, but also seem to be completely detached from their environment. They give a sense of freedom, yet not a very enviable state, at least in my opinion. But how beautiful are they?! Mystifying! The photographer is Hungarian and has done other amazing series. See here. Like? or too bizarre?
I'm thrilled to have Sam over today from The Peak of Tres Chic. You all know she is one of my favorites because of her great decor style. She sure knows how to make a room unique (I mean look at her headboard!). She is just as sweet as she is beautiful! And add to that so hardworking. I admire a girl who is studying, working, and blogging, all a the same time. This is a true go getter in my book. So here are Sam's faves:
As I continue on with my excitement that Spring draws near I have to tell you that we booked our tickets for our little family Spring break vacation. We are going to the beach. The beach is really the best vacation with a little one. Its relaxing for everyone because between the sand, the waves, and the pool, the kiddos almost entertain themselves while we sip on tropical drinks and get a tan...ahhhhhh!! So this got me thinking about my wardrobe. I don't really need anything, except some bathing suits. But, if I were really needing to make an investment for beach wear this is what I'm thinking.
With temperatures increasing, trees budding, and birds chirping you can tell Spring is in the air. And for me this means brighter colors. So today, I have rounded up a few of my favorite things with touches of turquoise. I need to start with these bracelets. My mom, who has the best taste ever, scouted these in a local magazine. Neither of us could stop drooling over them. These spectacular bracelets are covered with stingray shagreen and are simply decadently luxurious. The end caps are interchangeable and they come in different colors. Oh my!!
March is here and Spring is on its way. One of my favorite things to do this time of year is Spring cleaning. I actually really enjoy it....throwing out, organizing and deep cleaning everything (behind headboards and bookcases, above curtain valances...I even go through each and every one of my files and throw out papers that no longer need keeping). I love how my home smells so clean and fresh, and everything just looks perfectly in its place. So yes, Spring cleaning is a big deal around here and using the right products makes it all the more exciting for me.
What an easy and brilliant idea! Fun and witty chair covers to dress up any ugly old chairs you may not want to throw out but are a little embarrassed by. This is the perfect solution. You can buy them here (I couldn't find any other places. I hope they are to able to ship internationally).
